Personal Trainer in Portland Or: Carbohydrates and Fitness Training!

Carbohydrates tend to be one of the macro-nutrients that the general public chooses to avoid.  It’s not that they don’t enjoy pasta, rice, or potatoes, but rather are afraid of what consuming these foods will do to their bodies.  Diets such as South Beach and Atkins have us focus on avoiding carbohydrates altogether.  I personally am a skeptic to any “diet” that restricts a certain food group.  There’s a reason for the food pyramid after all. In addition, you need to listen to your body. When you body needs something, we need to listen to it. If you are training with intensity or working with a personal trainer in Portland Or, there are going to be times when you need to ingest some kind of carb to get those sugars back to normal. The key is to listen to your body, communicate to your personal trainer or workout partner and eat sensibly.

Carbohydrates in fact, should take up the largest amount of consumption throughout our day.  According to the USDA, 45-65% of our calories should come from carbohydrates. This nutrient is so important to fuel our bodies, especially if we lead an active lifestyle. Carbohydrates provide readily available energy that our bodies can put to use instantly, or stored in our muscles and liver for later use.  Intestinal health and waste elimination is also benefited from the consumption of carbohydrates, which helps us avoid constipation and doubling over with stomach pain. Our central nervous system, kidneys, brain, and muscles, heart included, would not be able to function properly without them.  That piece of information is enough for me to keep bread and pasta in my kitchen.

All of us want to be healthy and look good, and in order for that to happen we need to follow a nutritious diet and consistent workout plan.  If carbohydrates are eliminated from your diet, not only does the rest of your body suffer, but you’re also not able to perform your best when you’re training in the gym. Be smart about your food intake, and research common trends before following them.  By doing so, you stay well informed and make smart decisions about what should and shouldn’t go into your body.
